A request for a custom outdoor rug often presents many challenges, as each rug has its own characteristics and every customer has different needs. For this reason, we at Olivo.pro always inquire about the rug’s intended location and how it will be used, ensuring that the product we recommend is the best fit for the customer’s needs.
We never simply send a quote; first and foremost, we provide the customer with advice and pay close attention to the details they provide. It often happens that the initial request is for an outdoor rug with coarse fibers, but then, during the consultation, we realize that a rug with soft fibers is actually more suitable.
The Challenge of Boat Mats
The client’s initial request was for an outdoor rug, featuring a printed logo, to be placed on the pier—one that would be resistant not only to rain and typical weather conditions but also to salt and seawater. As an additional requirement, we were given a budget to adhere to.
After a careful evaluation on our part and by involving the client in the consultation phase, we selected our Outside model—an outdoor mat for professional use designed to withstand harsh weather and external elements, engineered to maintain its original characteristics over time, including the HD digital print.
The chosen size is the standard 60×85 cm, with a rubberized anti-slip and anti-fray edge. Standard sizes have two key features that lead us to frequently recommend them to our clients:
• Cost savings: the standard size is more affordable. If you need to stay within a specific budget, finding the ideal standard size is key.
• Time savings: our mechanical looms are pre-set for producing the standard sizes we offer. This allows us to speed up production times and deliver the rug as soon as possible.
Washable outdoor rugs? No problem!
No one wants a dirty rug, especially in luxury settings like those on boats. That’s why we offer washable outdoor rugs. Yes, but how washable are they? All rugs are washable, but here at Olivo Pro, we offer professional-grade rugs that are machine-washable and machine-dryable. Our Outside model can be machine-washed and tumble-dried at low temperatures (maximum 40°) or cleaned with a pressure washer. We recommend using mild detergents and avoiding harsh chemicals that could damage the rug’s structure. It’s guaranteed to withstand up to 220 washes!
Once thoroughly washed, the custom rug should be left to dry flat on a level surface. Thanks to the drainage holes on the surface, water will drain more easily, allowing for faster drying.
Soft-pile or shag nautical rugs?
A question we often ask our clients in the nautical sector during consultations is about the purpose of the mat they’re planning to purchase: Do they need a rough surface that removes dirt, but which might be uncomfortable for bare feet when walking on it? Or do they prefer a soft, absorbent material, which requires a bit more care in case of rain?
This is the key difference between our custom Outside outdoor mat and the Luxury Plus indoor doormat. Both models are among the best-sellers in the marine sector, each with its own specific features.
Outside is a professional-grade outdoor mat that can be left outdoors without deteriorating over time; it features drainage holes on the surface that facilitate drying, and the coarse nylon fibers scrape away and remove sand and dirt. On the other hand, the fibers do not feel soft to the touch or look soft. Therefore, if you’re looking for something comfortable, we recommend choosing a different product, such as the Luxury Plus doormat.
Luxury Plus, in fact, is a highly absorbent doormat with soft fibers and vibrant colors. Its softness is precisely what makes it a very popular choice among marine mats, as it allows you to walk on its surface in total comfort. Its fibers are highly absorbent of water and fine dust—it absorbs up to 2.5 liters per square meter and retains up to 4.5 kilograms per square meter of dust. For this reason, in case of rain or high humidity, this mat should be brought indoors to prevent it from becoming completely soaked, which would cause it to lose its primary function.
Both mats are machine-washable and machine-dryable, making them very convenient to maintain throughout your trip.
Negotiations for Noster Italia's marine carpet
After choosing the right product, we asked our graphic design department to provide us with a draft of the design to present to the client, who was satisfied with the proposal. Is it mandatory to have a logo ready to provide? No. If you don’t have a specific design available, our graphic designers will be happy to create a few proposals in line with your request.
In the specific case of Noster Italia, the client already had a logo for their registered trademark. Thanks to our extensive color palette, we were able to match the original colors as closely as possible, and the final result was more than satisfactory for us and, above all, for the client, who kindly sent us several photos of the carpet laid out on the dock, with the yacht in the background. Once again, a satisfied customer!
